Magna Gallery

Magna Gallery commenced its activities in 2000.
It presents the key personalities of the Czech and Slovak art scene that have not exhibited in Ostrava and its surroundings yet or for a longer period. In the last years it also gives space to the promising talents of the young artistic generation. In the course of one year it realizes seven or eight exhibitions and it publishes a catalogue for each of them. The exhibition programme is realised thanks to the financial support of the Statutory City Ostrava and the city district of Moravian Ostrava and Přívoz.

Exhibition of statues by Michal Gabriel

Michal Gabriel entered the scene at the beginning of 80s and since that time he has become one of the most visible creators of the new style – post-modernism. Since the beginnings of his artistic career we are witnesses to captivating storytelling using specific devices of sculpting language.

Michal Gabriel is not a philosopher speculating about the human life. He is a sculptor but his sculptures are not autotelic artefacts but are expressions of sensitive human experience and its maturation, which gives to all his works obvious and remarkable consistency.

Since 1984 he has exhibited alone and with others on hundreds of expos in CZ and abroad. His works are represented in collections of the National Gallery in Prague, Aleš’ South Bohemian Gallery in Hluboká nad Vltavou, Museum of Art in Olomouc, Gallery of modern arts in Hradec Králové and in many personal collections home and abroad.
